dj BC and The Beastles - Buildin’ My Life
from Let It Beast
ReBeatles Project - Get This Party Started
A live mashup of sorts. Very well done. They also do Do You Really Want To Hurt Me? and Beautiful, among others.

Classic Beatles vs. Guns N’ Roses mashup by DJ Jimmi James.

Nice The Who-Madonna mashup from Go Home Productions: Virgin O’Riley

Very good mashup of Thin Lizzy’s Boys Are Back In Town and Christina Aguilera’s Genie In A Bottle. I’m completely numb to tracks like Boys. I’ve just heard it so many times! This mashup effectively turns the track on its ear, making it bearable again.

Now *this* is a mashup. Girl Talk has spent years ruining the good name of the mashup by merely placing obvious rap lyrics on top of snippits of well-known pop songs. IMHO, a proper mashup finds a way for two or more pieces of art to intertwine and create something completley new, while simultaneously increasing your understanding and appreciation of the source material. Recontextualization is required. Rerharmonizaiton is the icing on the cake.
On another level, it simply boils down the the fact that a proper mashup has the potential to replace the original as “that song you can’t get out of your head”.
