I Hate Being Single Original Soundtrack by Jake Zavracky
Listening in anticipation of tomorrow’s series premiere. Proceeds from the soundtrack go to City Harvest.
“Jian Ghomeshi could teach a master class in the art of the interview.”
The Salt Lake Tribune wrote that last week. It’s hard to disagree. Anyone who’s seen Ghomeshi at work likely harbors a hidden desire to be interviewed, or at least introduced, by the man. What are his rules for conducting a solid interview?
- Let them talk.
- Prove yourself to the subject.
- When you see an opening, take it.
- Let the subject plug his gig.
It seems simple enough. If you doubt his skills, watch him work his magic with interviewees as diverse as Werner Herzog, Brian Wilson and Kermit The Frog. Of course, anyone capable of making it through this infamous interview with Billy Bob Thorton is clearly no less than a master.
I just rewatched the Billy Bob interview again. What an asshole!

Robb Padget, Tanya Ihnen and Steve Lekowicz of KATR Pictures know how to do holidays right. These two special videos from their Vampire Zombie Werewolf and Life From The Inside series are terribly clever and feature Padget’s original music. The VZW clip is delightfully odd, while the LFTI video is full of laughs, warm fuzzies and a Christmas carol you’ll want to add to your holiday playlist.

Whether you’re a feminist or a fangirl or you just like to learn, these six “Tropes vs Women” episodes of Feminist Frequency are absolutely fascinating. Host Anita Sarkeesian makes sure you’ll never look at entertainment the same way.

I recommend starting with The Straw Feminist. And I’m not totally on board with The Mystical Pregnancy.

Make demonstrates how to use an Arduino to make a celebrity-silencing remote control for your TV. By decoding the closed captioning track in the video signal, the Arduino is able to look for keywords such as “PALIN” or “KARDASHIAN” and mute your TV, protecting your poor ears from having to hear about them ever again.
More male-female relationships like this on TV please!
These two are true friends and consider each other equals. And for all the hilariously mean things they have said to each other, their actions are always noble and loyal. It’s a pretty rare thing to see portrayed on TV, which is too bad because it opens the door to all sorts of entertaining possibilities. But I guess I really shouldn’t expect to see TV deliver a relationship like this twice in one lifetime, so….

Vag Magazine is not your grandma’s feminist magazine, though we support her as a woman. Join founders Fennel, Sylvie, and Bethany, staffers Heavy Flo (a hero on the roller derby circuit), Reba (truly a legend of gonzo feminist pop culture journalism), and Meghan (the lone holdover from fashion magazine Gemma, which the Vag founders bought out with the proceeds from their Etsy shop), and enthusiastic intern Kit as they teach you how to be a better woman.
Funny.
If you’re thinking about experimenting with blip.tv, now is right time to throw a few blip players on your show’s site or blog.
It’s the holiday season, and blip.tv is in the spirit. We’ve got shows using the blip.tv player right now that are making $15 CPMs. That’s $15 per one thousand video views. So release your new episodes in the blip player. Tweet, Facebook share, drive traffic. And get a check from blip in the new year to help support your show.

Known as the “Salmon River Caveman,” Richard Zimmerman lived an essentially 19th century lifestyle, a digital-age anachronism who never owned a telephone or a television and lived almost entirely off the land. ”He was in his home at the caves at the end, and it was his wish to die there,” said Connie Fitte, who lived across the river. “He was the epitome of the free spirit.” Richard Zimmerman had been in declining health when he died [in April]. Few knew him by his given name. To friends and visitors to his jumble of cave-like homes scrabbled from a rocky shoulder of the Salmon River, he was Dugout Dick.
