I Believe:

Content is Better than Hype: I don’t care if you are twittering, attending social marketing meetups, going to web 2.0 conferences, or are affiliated with some big name company or person. Unless you are producing quality creative content, It doesn’t matter.

Comments are Better than Views: I would rather have 20 engaged commenting viewers than 200 silent views. Too often we focus on the numbers a video pulls in, but doesn’t a dedicated, active audience count more? If I know my viewers are actually thinking and processing the content I am putting out there, then I know I am doing something right.

Respect is Better than an Award: Having a reputation for creating quality work will always outweigh any statue you can be given. This is especially true to awards that cost money to be nominated for.

Showing is Better than Telling: The youtube revolution has led to an increased number of people sitting in front of web-cams talking about their experiences. This goes against whole Idea of using video as a communication medium. Don’t sit there and tell me that you walked through a beautiful field of flowers, show me the field, let me hear the sounds, let me see the colors. Video is a visual medium, we must use it to its full potential.

Quicktime is Still Important: I make it a point to export both an ipod-compatible version and HD version of every video I post to my blog. I do this so that programs like Miro can pick the file from the feed. Flash files are great for on-site viewing, but the revolution of Video Blogs was that you could subscribe to them with a video-reader. To my knowledge you still need a quicktime file for that.

The Search for Celebrity or Money is not a Strong Enough Drive to Lead to Success: Passion is the key. If you are passionate about a specific topic, then you need to focus on that. If you are passionate about a particular style of production, then go for it. If you just can’t stop yourself from creating, then you are on the right track. Passion speaks much louder than budgets or skill.

Am I missing anything?

Nope, I think you got it all.

Correct!  Although I think the comments vs. views rule only applies to certian types of content.  I do tell people something similar, though.  I tell them that they need viewers, not views.
