“Maude” is one of the few TV characters to go through with an abortion (and live). Even in recent years, female TV characters that ponder abortion don’t go through with it (see Miranda on SATC). It’s like showrunners nowadays are afraid to deal with something that hundreds of women consider everyday (more likely they don’t want to deal with the political ramifications/boycotts/what have you). This is what I think of when I think of Bea Arthur. RIP.
