aatombomb asked: Do you really like Ally? Are you sure they won't start charging this kind of debit card fee? Do they handle direct deposits well? Free checking, etc? I'm at Chase, but would love to give them a middle finger as I withdraw my $37 and switch. I am lazy, but I'm also broke, so I would do this if it's the right thing to do.

Banks now charging per-month fees on your debit... →
spytap:
“You kinda fucked us over,” said the people.
“Buddy, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet,” replied the banks.
Not all banks will do it. But most people are lazier than they are angry, so nobody will switch. My bank refunds ATM fees from any and all banks I withdraw cash through. I’ll explain that to someone immediately after they rant at me about high ATM fees, but they won’t...

Goldberger’s criticisms make sense, but betting against Apple on design and functionality is seldom a good idea.

– Mitt Romney, essentially calling Obama weak. Of course, Romney has never been on a battlefield and has two degrees from Harvard. Romney’s foreign policy and economics advisors are Harvard graduates, too, as are three of his children.

Nostalgia Chick asks some tough questions about the 1998 film, City of Angels:
It it a thought provoking drama? Contrived and cheap Hollywood schlock? Or simply a venue to show us Nicolas Cage’s sex face?
NC’s really upping her game lately.

Troy Davis’ Final Words.
“I did not personally kill your son, father, brother…All I can ask is that you look deeper into this case so you really can finally see the truth.” To those that performed the execution: “May God have mercy on your souls; may God bless your souls.”

Let Bartlet Be Bartlet (1.19)
Chairman Fitzwallace: We’re discussing gays in the military, huh?
Major Thompson: Yes sir.
Fitzwallace: What do you think? I said, what do you think?
Thompson: Sir, we’re here to help the White House form a possible -
Fitzwallace: I know. I’m asking you what you think.
Major Tate: Sir, we’re not prejudiced toward homosexuals.
Fitzwallace: You just don’t want to see them serving in the Armed Forces?
Tate: No, sir, I don’t.
Fitzwallace: Cause they pose a threat to unit discipline and cohesion.
Tate: Yes sir.
Fitzwallace: That’s what I think too. I also think the military wasn’t designed to be an instrument of social change.
Tate: Yes sir.
Fitzwallace: The problem with that is that what they were saying to me fifty years ago. Blacks shouldn’t serve with whites, it would disrupt the unit. You know what? It did disrupt the unit.
The unit got over it. The unit changed. I’m an admiral in the U.S. Navy and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Beat that with a stick.

For six years the TPMMuckraker section of our site has chronicled public corruption, public wrongdoing and various sorts of criminal investigations. As part of that...

President Obama: The American Jobs Act
You really should watch this. It’s sensible and realistic. It is tuned in, not to the polls and the press, but to citizens and to the moment. It’s not perfect and it’s not what idealists on either side would want, but it’s a real solution to a real problem.
